Oh, the Places You’ll Go

The “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” essay contest and the Career Infomercial contest results are in.

Both contests were offered region-wide. The essay contest was offered to all seventh grade students and the infomercial contest was available to all high school students.

The essay contest takes it’s inspiration from the Dr. Seuss book, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go”, published in 1990. This was his final published work before his death in 1991 and follows the main character through the basic stages of life, using creations like “the waiting place” to represent the challenges and difficulties faced in everyone’s life.

The Career Infomercial contest was introduced to explore career possibilities by using a PowerPoint presentation with embedded videos and narration to convince the viewer to consider specific occupations for further exploration.

The purpose of these annual contests, sponsored by the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board, Inc., is to encourage students to consider career choices and explore areas of interest. The goal is to expose students to careers and encourage the exploration of opportunities that are available to them in the workforce for the future.

The essays and infomercials were judged by celebrity judges and workforce professionals. The winners received framed certificates and Walmart gift cards. You can see the outstanding essays and infomercials on our website by visiting our Essay and Infomercial Contest Winners page.
