The moment you’ve been waiting for has arrived! The interview is happening and after 30 minutes of answering questions the hiring manager wants to know about you, they now ask if you have any questions for them.
This interview was tough to get and you may tell yourself, “I should play it safe and say No”, but is this really in your best interest?
Interviews are a two-way street, meaning, the hiring manager asks you questions to figure out if you are the right fit for their organization, therefore, you must ask them questions to find out if their organization is a good fit for YOU!
In order to formulate the questions you want to ask, do a thorough research on the company, its management team, mission, culture, and strategy for the future. Most of this information is readily available on their website.
After the research, the following questions will help you identify if the job is the right fit for you.
- Where would you place your priorities for the duties of this job?
- What are your expectations for your new hire in the first 90 days?
- What would be the most challenging aspect of this job?
- Who would be an ideal candidate?
- What are the opportunities for advancement? Do you promote within?
- Does the company offer continuous training/development for the employees?
- How would you describe the company’s personality and management style?
- What are some of the specific challenges a person may face in this position?
- What are some of the company’s long-term goals?
- What is the next step?
It’s important to close the interview with positive statements like, “you want the job”, and “you can do the job” to show interest in the position.
