Successful Interview Series – Part Three and Southwest Florida’s Hot Jobs

Buisiness people or students working together on laptop

As the final part of a three part series on “Successful Interviews”, we hope you’ve found useful advice on how to present yourself during the interview for maximum results.

We don’t expect you to get it right the first time, keep practicing and be mindful of how to handle the interview by applying the following tips:

  • Prove-it file – towards the end of the interview ask permission to show off your prove-it file which contains awards, certificates, recognition letters, diplomas, and any other documentation that makes you stand out.
  • Be sincere – if the job is not the right fit for you professionally, tell the interviewer what would be the right fit for you.
  • Internships or On the Job Training programs – if these are available, participate in these programs to get more training.
  • Salary negotiations – avoid as long as possible to talk about salary and only after you have an actual job offer.
  • Total package – be prepared to negotiate your total package which includes salary, bonus, benefits, and more.
  • Close the interview – with a positive statement stating “you want the job” and “you can do the job”.
  • Next steps – always ask “what is the next step in the interviewing process?” and “when you will hear back with a decision?”.
  • Gather business cards – do not leave the interview without the interviewer’s business cards and send a thank you letter within 24 hours of the interview.

Interviews can be quite intimidating to all job seekers, but if you apply the advice we’ve given you these past few weeks, it will help you conquer it and bring the results you seek.

“I’d rather attempt to do something great and fail than to attempt to do nothing and succeed.” – Robert H. Schuller
