Migrant Farmworkers

Never feel alone when times get rough. 

The CareerSource Florida network provides full-time, year-round, outreach workers to conduct activities to the farmworker community and provide limited services offsite. Additional employment services are available onsite at the career centers.

To locate a career center near you, please call 1-866-FLA-2345 (1-866-352-2345). The career centers can provide a number of employment services, which may be of help to you. In order to receive some of these services you may have to register in Florida’s employment service system online at www.EmployFlorida.com. Assistance with completing the registration is available.

The Florida Department of Education Farmworker Career Development Program (FCDP) is funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Section 167, by the United States Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration. The purpose of the FCDP is to provide career services and appropriate training leading to year-round, unsubsidized employment to eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers and to provide emergency stabilization services such as food, rent, etc. to those who choose to stay in farm work.

Services to Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers through Career Centers

Services Provided to Farmworkers at any Career Center:

Registration is not needed to:
• Receive information on the kinds of jobs that are available
• Receive information about and/or referral to other agencies that may be able to provide services not available through a career center, such as supportive services
• File a complaint about a career center or an employer
• Receive information about farmworker rights that are protected by state and federal laws
A short or partial registration is needed so that you may receive:
• Assistance with job search
• An immediate referral to an agricultural job for a specific farm recruitment event
• Referral to supportive services, including child care, medical/health, food assistance, transportation, housing
A full registration is needed so that you may receive:
• Assistance with labor market registration
• Assessment of skill levels
• Career guidance or counseling
• Assistance with an Individual Employment Plan
• Referral to training opportunities, based on eligibility
• Orientation and workshops
• Referral to other job opportunities (including non-agricultural)
A full registration provides career center staff with a more complete summary of your work experience and needs. It will help them search for and identify more services that may be available to you and to continue to look for job opportunities for you after you leave the career center.

The Florida Department of Business and Professional
Regulation is responsible for enforcing laws for your benefit
and protection. You have a right to file a complaint against
any crewleader if you feel a violation of the law has occurred.

Eligible farmworkers must meet US DOL criteria for being “low income,” prove a history of farm work, have legal status in the United States, and be authorized by competent authority to work in the United States. Most program participants are Florida home-based farmworkers and reside in the state year-round. Florida’s Farmworker Career Development Program is implemented through sub-recipient agencies located in highly populated farmworker communities. These are local direct service providers non-profit agencies, county governments, state and community colleges, technical centers, and school districts.
