Interview Questions to Identify Good Character

Character: the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

We are accustomed to ask competency interview questions which by now many applicants expect from an interview. These generic questions have been rehearsed and many times are not truthful. Therefore, if you want to find an employee with good character, you need to change the questions asked during an interview.

Here are some examples of the types of questions that will help you identify good character in candidates:

  • What was the name of the receptionist?

  • What is 30 times 30?

An article by IDEAS.TED.COM by Julia Fawl, “5 Interview questions that will help you hire better people“, will give you 5 actual questions to ask and the purpose behind each one.

These questions will help you identify their values, how they handle challenging situations, how they treat strangers, and more.

Hiring people with substance can truly impact your organization and the world around them. These questions will help you find good character on those you want to hire.
