Donna J. Beasley Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy
A registered apprenticeship program is a structured training program that combines classroom related instruction and on-the-job training in which paid employees can acquire the practical and technical training in the field of their choice. Apprenticeship programs are industry-driven career training programs. Each industry determines the skills they need from their employees and that is how the programs are designed and how the curriculum is taught in the classroom.
Apprenticeships can run from one to six years depending on the program. Each apprentice works under the direction of a journeyman in their field of interest to acquire the skills needed to perform the work of the trade. Throughout the program the apprentice will develop work ethics and responsibility for their work and performance on the job as well as in the classroom.
Each apprentice who successfully completes the program will gain the skills and knowledge needed to increase their employability in the workforce. Apprenticeship graduates will have the necessary qualifications to take/sit for their journeyman’s exam.
The Donna J. Beasley Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy does not provide journeyman licensure to any of its apprentices. Licensing is provided through County Contracting Licensing. Most of the Tri-County Academy graduates have gone on to earn their Florida journeyman certificates.
