About Our Program
Miracle is an after school program funded by 21st CCLC
(21st Century Community Learning Center) grants. The Miracle program is free to qualified students and offered in grades 3-12 at all schools in Immokalee which includes five elementary, one middle, and one high school. There are over 900 students served by Miracle.
In the elementary schools, the program is designed as Miracle University (MU) and introduces students to the world of post-secondary education. Students earn “credits” as they rotate through the six main colleges: (1) Leadership Institute: (2) College of Business; (3) Academy of the Arts; (4) Institute of Technology; (5) Institute of Math a & Science; and (6) College of Communication. Credits are also awarded for completing PBL (Project-Based Learning) units, maintaining good attendance, improving academics, practicing the 7 Habits and Growth Mindsets, and attending family nights.
Miracle provides students with a foundation of life-long personal leadership skills rooted in the 7 Habits of Happy Kids (Based on Stephen Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”) To increase student resiliency and self-efficacy, the 7 Habits are embedded in PBL units and daily activities. The MU culture fosters growth mindsets in students and staff so everyone understands that effort, grit, and persistence are essential components to reach academic and personal potential. Brain breaks, homework hall and other program activities offer strategies that focus on challenging student paradigms so that they become open to and excited by academic challenges.
At the middle an high school, Miracle program graduates to “6YFN.” “6 Years From Now” (6YFN) focuses students on their “future selves.” Students engage in research. activites, and projects that emphasize science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) … with an eye on future careers. Students are provided individual support to understand where they are now in their educational careers and to develop next-step plans for their future selves. There are opportunities to explore different interests and career options as they complete 6YFN’s PBLs (Project-Based Learning Units) in “student clubs.”
