Work Ethic Questions at the Interview & SWFL’s Hot Jobs

Business People in suits in a city

One of the questions that will be asked at the job interview is: define your work ethic? And this question may not be so direct, instead may be presented as: Describe yourself? Provide an example of a project that required working with others? How do you handle new projects? And so on.

You may freeze at these questions if you are not prepared to answer or understand what work ethic is.

A great definition of work ethic has been given by AllaboutPhilosopy.org: “work ethic” includes not only how one feels about their job, career, or vocation, but also how one does his/her job or responsibilities. This involves attitude, behavior, respect, communication, and interaction with others.”

Asking questions to each area below will give you a greater insight on your own work ethic to help you describe it during the interview.

  • Integrity – Have you shown honesty and high moral values in various situations at your previous jobs?
  • Attitude – reflect on your beliefs about work; based on these beliefs, do you have a can-do attitude?
  • Responsibility – Once a task or project is given, do you embrace them as your own?
  • Teamwork – do you collaborate well with others in order to achieve common goals?
  • Discipline –are you able to control your behavior and actions in order to accomplish the task at hand?
  • Quality – have you worked diligently to deliver the best quality of your work?
  • Accountability – do you feel obligated to your organization to deliver results in a transparent manner?
  • Commitment – Do you have strong feelings of responsibility towards the goals of your company?

Identifying your particular work ethic during an interview can ease the interview process for you and give you and advantage over other candidates.

“As a leader, these attributes – confidence, perseverance, work ethic, and good sense – are all things I look for in people.” – Heather Bresch, American Businesswoman.
