The Affordable Housing Workgroup was created by the 2017 Legislature to review the housing in Florida affordable rental housing, examine land and building code for affordable housing and consider the state’s implementation of the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program.
Let’s define affordable housing
It is a safe and decent housing that differs from regular market rates housing in two ways:
the income of the family living in the housing
the financing of the housing.
The family must be income eligible in terms of area median income (AMI), adjusted for family size, from extremely low to moderate income.
Lee County, the City of Fort Myers, City of Cape Coral, Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers, and Lee County Housing Authority are currently conducting a study regarding fair housing.
The study will consist of four fair housing meetings to discuss important fair housing issues.
Attend the meetings to provide your opinions, knowledge, and feelings about fair housing, along with suggestion on how to solve fair housing issues and to work together to make Lee County better in fair housing.
